The temperature may still be in the 90’s around here, but the Calendar says it’s Fall, Pumpkin Spiced Latte’s are available, Football season has started, and all of my boots have come down from the top shelf of my closet. I may not be able to pile on sweaters and scarves just yet, but I am in the mood to mix things up and there are a few quick, and even subtle changes that I would like to suggest to let our makeup reflect the changing season.
1. Lips. Lips are probably the easiest thing you can update to completely transform your makeup. One option is by changing the shade to a Fall tone. Take that nude gloss out of your makeup bag and replace it with a beautiful, rich berry shade. I recommend our new Brazen Berry. If you aren’t comfortable with a strong color on your lips then swipe on your favorite shade and press and pat a similar toned blush all over your lips. This technique gives you the look of the oh so popular matte lipstick that we are seeing everywhere right now.
2. Set aside that bronzer. I get it. You have spent all Summer perfecting that perfect Golden Goddess glow with self-tanner and bronzer. That “just came back from a relaxing island vacation” look can be addictive. It’s time to tone it down though. If you aren’t comfortable nixing it all together then take it one step at a time. However, this might be the perfect time to try a little contouring and highlighting. You didn’t hear this from me, but the rumor is Mineralogie is releasing a new duo made just for this purpose very soon.
3. Back to Black. Or Grey. Or Plum. That’s right. Fall is the time for all of those beautiful shades of eye shadow. The theme of Summer for me is effortless, natural, understated. Fall calls for me to dig out the richer, deeper shades of shadow, and maybe picking up a new one to try. Wear a smoky eye for daytime. Go for a graphic eye liner, maybe a nice wing using a great liquid liner. Have fun with it.
4. Good coverage is key in both football and makeup this Fall. If you have been using a lightweight foundation, try switching to something offering more full coverage. And don’t forget the concealer!
However you decide to update your look this Fall, don’t take yourself too seriously. Have fun with it! Makeup is the most temporary thing you can experiment with, so go ahead and try a winged liner, bold lip or contouring. If you don’t love it, you can wipe it off at the end of the day and try something different next time. And you might stumble on a new favorite technique!
